Every house should have a sick-room. I don’t care if it gets used only once a year. It would still be worth it.
This would avoid the need to confront the worst view in the house at the time that you are at your lowest.
When I was little and said that I felt sick, my mother would actually say, “Go and put your head over the toilet.” Up until the age of 16, I was under the impression thought this was a BMJ-recognised medical procedure to induce vomiting. Something along the lines of “better out than in”. If she was worried about me emptying my stomach on to the carpet, she could have said, “Go and sit in the garden and see if you feel a bit better with some fresh air and the sound of the birds.” Parents, remember that.
